"DISASTER WILL STRIKE WHEN YOU TRY TO UNINSTALL IT..."
Good Reputation, many downloads from lots of people.
BEWARE, DISASTER WILL STRIKE, not while you are running it, but WHEN YOU TRY TO UNINSTALL IT.
All these folks that gave it more than 1 star(we really wanted to give it 0 or negative stars) may want to reconsider until they have performed a clean unintall(mission impossible).
We had to install a telephony package, its creators told us to uninstall and reinstall Avast. We called Avast and some rude employee told us, yes, uninstall and reinstall it. DISASTER WILL STRIKE NOT while you are running it, but if you ever try to uninstall it. It uninstalled taking down with it many windows drivers without telling us. We lost our network along with its internet connection and could not get it back, no matter what we tried. It left folders and files in program files we could not delete, even though we are our own computers admin. It left many-many entries in the registry(both my husband and I are old MCSEs) that could not be removed from the registry(access denied), no matter what we tried. It would not let us reboot in safe mode or in last known good config, so we took the drive our and placed it as a slave drive on another computer so we could delete the program files avast folders, that worked. But we could still not remove the registry keys, and it would not let us shut down or
disable the running services. Those of you what know windows in depth might be getting an idea. Avast support told us to pay $120, we did, but they could do nothing after many efforts, so even though they promised to refund, we suffered major harassment to get a refund. Some avast space-age high-tech rep told us to ... download their own uninstall exe from their website and run it.
We downloaded it to another computer and transferred it to this one via USB, as this one at the time would not connect to the internet, no network drives. Guess what, their own uninstallation exe refused to uninstall as avast gets to what is called self-protection mode, many dialog boxes with errors all over the screen. Saving vital data on other disk, reformat and reinstall windows helped, but please beware, while its up and running we may think we are OK, but if we try to uninstall, you will never install it again, its a disaster-waiting-to-happen. We kept names and records of every email, every phonecall(mp3 recordings), just in case Avast want to hear or see their ... diamonds in action.
