"Well, I have one big gripe"

    January 21, 2013  |   By nmweatherman

    It's free...

    Constant and irritating "updates"

I've used Avast Free for quite some time and, over this time, I have one big gripe about. It is forever intruding to "update your virus definitions." I mean, three times a day or more. I can tell when it is doing this because my PC slows wayyyyyyy down and even freezes up while I'm working. I tried to alter the settings to "manual updating" and I got all kinds of warnings and nags..."YOUR COMPUTER MAT BE AT RISK!" I wonder just how often my virus definitions have to be updated? Give me a break! So be warned about this interminable, constant updating and the slow-downs that happen.

You can go to settings then update and open up the drop menu at bottom of page. It is pre-set to update every 240 minutes;this can be changed to any number you choose. At least it won't bother you as often, but you also won't have the most recent signatures necessarily.

I dropped my rating from 5 stars to 3 stars due to this issue.
