  Pros

  Its free, has lots of features.

  Cons

  Very Slow Scanning. Requires email registration. Convoluted interface, options are spread out and not centralized.

  Summary

  When you perform a complete scan and select scan whole files, it takes hours and hours to complete a scan. a So called quick scan took over 30 minutes to complete. There is little evidence that the so-called "Shields" are actually working.

  I do all my scan at night than when I get up my computer is off and all the scanning is done, end of story.

  Not a first time user. Fact is, Avast takes a very very very long time to complete a complete scan. If you check scan whole files, and I would think one would want to scan everything once in a while, then it takes hours and hours to complete a scan.

  If you are a first time user, the old antivirus program may not have been removed completely especially if it was hit by a virus, there are removal tools for most of the popular programs: Norton, AVG, Avast, McAfee...
  Avast or any antivirus program will slow down your pc if there is still residue from the previous antivirus on the pc.
