"Generally good, but ..."
Pros
I've like Avast because it's a sound program, and doesn't annoy me by constantly telling me what to do.
Cons
In the most recent updates to Avast, for reasons that I haven't figured out, I have to turn the shields off for 10 minutes when I launch Firefox or IE. Otherwise it won't allow the browser to connect to the Net. Once it's running there's (usually) no further problem. This glitch is why I'm only giving it 4 stars. (If someone knows of a setting I can change to take care of this, please let me know!)
Summary
I used to use AVG, until they came out with a new program in December 2010. My computer was one of the many that was crashed by it. That plus the fact that it had started using up resources like Congress on a spending spree persuaded me to try something else. Avast has worked very well for me, until the browser problem. That's a fairly minor glitch, as far as I'm concerned, since you simply have to right click the icon to shut the shields down for 10 minutes, then click that Yes you wanted to do that. After that you're set as long as your browser's open. Even it you close it, it may reopen without problems. I expect they'll get this fixed, and until they do I don't see it as a big enough issue to not use an excellent AV program that neither crashes your computer nor uses immense resources.
