"only thing weaker than MS "user account control""

    January 6, 2012  |   By atomheart411

    Pros

Gives you a nice fuzzy warm feeling of (false)security.

    Cons

Yeah, same problem with Win7 2012. 3 times in a months time I even sent a letter into MS showing them a Spybot report which found it, but was also completely ineffective at cleaning it. Suggesting user error is insulting. I watched as the user account control popped up, I denied the change, and it went ahead anyway. Multiple runs of MSE couldn't even find it! It just beats the crap out of MSE every time. Giving credit where it is due however, I will say that the downloadable MS Safety Scanner has been able to eventually root it out. But ***? They can't put that same tool into the MSE ? I don't get it.

    Summary

Bottom line, I have talked to security professionals and they verify my suspicion that we're fighting a losing battle. None the less, short of tossing the laptop into the river, there are companies fighting the good fight. I'm gonna try Vipre next. Tried Avira, wasn't impressed.
