    "Despite problems, still running it!"

    Pros

    An old friend of mine in the free security services and has helped significantly in the past.

    Cons

    CNET told me to download the new version. OMG, their help desk is woeful and it was a battle to get a download to un-install it. None of my un-installers would work and it was slowing the PC down and also remained hidden in the system.

    Summary

    It's finally up and running. Weeks where so much time was spent trying everything to get it off the system. Eventually Avast sent a programme that you have to run in Safe Mode to get it off the machine. Seems to be working perfectly but dread the next upgrade. I'm pretty computer savvy but tight and hence I like well respected free programmes. I have used Avast for years but I will say this, from my experience of installing the new version have an adult present or a geek. If it doesn't work, I will find the makers and keep them captive in a dungeon for the same number of months as I spent hours sorting out the mess the current version made of my life. If all goes well I will forgive but will never forget that an old and faithful friend turned upon me!

    When v6.0 is released do the following.
    1) Do a "complete" uninstall.
    2) Do a "clean" install.
    3) Enjoy the new, better avast!
    4) 6.0 is in "beta" testing now.
    5) Wait until the "final" release as "beta" versions always have "bugs".
    6) 6.0 Free will have more features than any other "free" av.
