"decent antivirus with only the "essentials""

    April 21, 2011  |   By beat_elite

    plain ol' antivirus software
    light on resources
    easy to understand UI
    scheduled scans

    no other bells and whistles
able to prevent most viruses, but removing them is another issue

When my boss got 4 new Windows 7 computers for work all he did was install the company software and the Microsoft Office suite...that's it. I'm pretty much the IT guy when the IT guy isn't around so I had to install pretty much everything else including the antivirus software so my co-workers could at least have some protection when randomly browsing celebrity sites on their breaks. I decided to give MS essentials a try and it seems pretty A-OK. No issues yet and scheduled scans make my life easier because it seems at least once a year someone has to get a virus and it's better that it's found sooner than later.

Only time will tell if it can stand up to the big trojans like "antivirus 2011" *crosses fingers*
