This is an outstanding program already in its free version.
Like mentioned above (Pros/Cons) has so many features protecting your computer that you are really getting a top notch software for free! I have used it for years, installed it for friends and family and they have had no problems with it. Also the internationalization is a great feature! I have a polish friend and she's not too tech savvy, so it was a real help to at least display all menus options, etc. in her native language... she feels more comfortable with that as her English (especially when it comes to computer terms) is not stellar, so it'll make it a bit easier for her to understand what a quarantine or malware are :)
I found the program to be quite unobtrusive. Although years ago I did have a couple instances where on old laptops it was slightly impacting performances in sporadic instances, that was several releases ago and I was running it on a XP SP2 machine which was loaded with programs and software being tested, plus it also was a bit underpowered with its dated P4 processor and 1 GB RAM :) Actually comes to think of it... it was amazing Avast was running at all with that configuration.
So I can say that in all honesty I think this is a fantastic antivirus and I am thankful to the Avast team for providing it free to home users like myself! :)
The features are too many to enumerate and comment on here... and I want to avoid turning a review into an eulogy of the program. My advice would be try it for yourself I happened to love it and you may too... and if you don't, then you can always uninstall it and switch to a different antivirus without spending a dime! A no-brainer if you ask me.
PS: The Avast team has made it a priority to speed up performances so not only you will not realize it's running (like now), but you'll end up even forgetting that you have an antivirus installed!
