"Works with XP Pro 64bit - YAY!!"
Free, works fine, automatic updates are smooth and seamless; on a lighter protection setting, it captures incoming trojans.
To me, the graphical user interface is rather oddly structured and it is ... skinnable. IMO, skinning is ok, but I don't leave the UI visible so why bother to skin it? Just a user preference, I guess, but still we HAVE to use the GUI for manual scanning.
Next, you'd expect the software to have saved settings since the last scan, so that when you want to run a manual scan again tomorrow, all you'd need to do was click scan. Nope. I've always needed to click the C: drive before scanning or I get a "Nothing to scan!" message.
Also, Avast!, as installed in a default configuration, nearly locks up my system.
Didn't start this 'locking up' for many weeks after I installed Avast!, so I was initially unsure of the cause, but from using selective startup and discovering Avast! was the issue, and then posting in the forum, I am certain it is Avast!. Furthermore, their forums told me to use a delayed startup option in the Avast! configuration, and now I'm good to go when I delay Avast!
Thats all I know of on the Con side, though!
