"Version 6 was superb. V 7 is improving."
I've been using AVG for several years and I much prefer it to Nortons and McAfee which I encounter at work. (I've used Avast, too, and liked that one.)
AVG wins because it easily dealt with a boot virus on a couple of friends computers. (I had to download it for them and it took a long time to run but it worked when nothing else would.) AVG has kept my computers virus free but version 7 doesn't get on perfectly with my emailer/firewall combination. It was scanning email attachments slowly so my emailer timed out. I think the problem might be resolved now after changing to ZoneAlarm Pro, so AVG is probably still the best anti-virus software at any price (free) but I'll still be checking out Avast again, just to make sure.
