"Been using this program for 6 years with no problems."
Able to download movies, music, photos (I havent attempted games and programs) with no problems. Read summary for an explanation if you disagree.
Program will stay on unless you exit it properly (need to close it using icon near the clock).
I have downloaded over 700 full movies (old and new) in the past 7 months alone. My computer is from 2004 with 1GB RAM, 125GB Hard drive on windows XP, Intel Hyperthreading processor. I have a DSL hookup. I can normally go to a max of 350KB/s on downloads. In other words, my computer is slow. I can still download songs in minutes or movies within a few hours.
People who complain about this being "slow" normally dont understand how this works. In order for you to "download" something, someone else who has the item must be "connected" online. Depending on how they have set their "Upload" speed and amount of downloads allowed, it may take forever to get something. Sometimes, they log off in the middle or just before you get the file. Sometimes they "move" the file into a folder which is not "Shared". Some do not share files with "freeloaders", meaning if you dont share files or a specific amount of files, you wont be able to download from them.
** I would strongly suggest that you go to "Tools", "options" and go thru every category to learn a little about this. This is how I did it. There are also "Forums".
But lets say you want a video that appears on your search. If you pick the one that has nothing in the 2nd column (#). This shows you how many "Sources" are available for the item. In a normal download, you'll get a max of 8 hosts(sources). I've seen my speed go to about 290kb/s on just 1 item alone hitting 8 good hosts. If the hosts are set at 20 upload slots but they dont have their upload speed set to 100%(unlimited), you're likely to get something like 1 - 10 kb/s. I have seen my own slow computer upload to 20 requests at a max of only 80kb/s total, split amongst the 20, even tho I set it to 100%. I have set mine to 4-9 to allow a shorter time for those trying to download files I am sharing.
Torrents will allow more hosts, hence normally a faster download time. But if you are downloading 8 or more items, and you are like me, maxing at 350kb/s, sometimes you need to lower the amount of downloads you do at one time to 4 or even less, put the others on pause, then "find sources" after you have changed it.
I would also suggest that you not run other programs if your computer is already slow.
As for people who say "I cant find anything", remember, its a sharing program. That means, the actual MP3 rocket doesnt have these downloads. Its from other individuals like yourself. You are sharing with Limewire, Bearshare, Frostwire and who knows what else.
For those attempting to download porn, well MP3 rocket is pre set with a "filter". Under "Tools" "Options" "Filters" "Keywords" "Ignore Adult Content" - you must uncheck that box.
If you attempt to download files from the same "source/host", it may stop you from downloading if you place too many requests at once. The preset is at 3 under "Tools" "Options" "Uploads" "Slots" "Uploads per person". Some people change it to more, or to 1. If you "right click" on the title, you can see at least one of the hosts "browse host". Just by doing a search, you wouldnt know it was the same host. You can "right click" on the header and show "Location", but it will not show when there are multiple hosts.
I have used edonkey, emule, limewire and some others I cant recall, I prefer MP3 Rocket.
My friend in Canada cannot watch some tv shows online (Hulu, Fancast, direct tv sites) due to her location. She is able to use the "watch tv" function to watch the shows now. There is a "Maximize Screen" button and a favorites button as well.
If you download movies, I would also suggest you place the mouse cursor over the item you want to see how long the video is. It will be in Hours:Minutes:Seconds. If the movie is a normal 1 hour 30 min, but it shows as 03:20 (3 min 20 sec) you'll have to go to a site to get the key. Not all items will show the time.
Well this was very lengthy, but so many people dont understand this program and bash it without getting more information first.
