"It's ease of use is why so many use it over the rest"
Pros
It's quick and easy to set up for the non techies among us. it also adds some fun things like the ability to share whatever you're listening to or to play a few short games. I use it because most of my friends and family use it. Works on Windows 7
Cons
Sometimes it will disconnect in the middle of a conversation and the way it's set up to share photos is ok but pretty slow depending on the speed of the internet connection and the size of the photos being sent. The new emoticons can be annoying.
Summary
It works on all versions of Windows except for 95 but not many run that OS anymore and the same can be said of Windows 98. I wish it would allow you to set it up so you can be invisible to certain people when you log into it. In stead you have to go through and make yourself visible to the people you want to see that you're on. I don't like to totally block others on my buddy list but there are times you don't want to be chatting with them. Other than that it gets the job done, one last thing is they have improved the tool-bar allowing you to customize it just about any way you wish.
