VueScan is, without a doubt, the best scanner software available for OS X. It makes the software supplied by scanner vendors look childish. Let's face it, NONE of the software supplied by scanner makers is written and optimized for the OS X platform. All of them are bad ports of Windows applications. I have a Canon LiDE 80 USB scanner and the supplied software, CanoScan Toolbox X, is an absolutely horrible piece of junk that completely hogs the CPU while it is running. VueScan makes using this otherwise pretty decent scanner a pleasurable experience. I simply couldn't function without VueScan. I'm amazed at the continued support and development of VueScan. I have said this before and I will say it again, Apple Inc, should buy VueScan, hire Ed Hamrick, roll VueScan into OS X, and let Ed continue development with an ample R&D budget. That would make OS X even more attractive to the professional graphics people, photographers, and home users.
