Pros
Reasonable cost . Allows you to keep the old scanner going by replacing its outdated bundled software and drivers with software that is up to date.
Cons
Nothing wrong with VueScan itself, but the product requirement listings at Download.com are incorrect! A Universal Binary version is available that runs on Mac OS X 10.3.9 and higher.
Summary
I have nothing but praise for VueScan... but whoever is listing the requirements at Download.com is not paying attention!
The link provided only links to the 64 bit intel version intended only for use with 64 bit Intel based machines.
If you have either a PowerPC based Mac running Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher, or a 32 bit intel based Mac, then go to:

This is the Universal Binary version that will work on PowerPC Macs and 32 bit intel Macs.
According Hamrick Software, the minimum OS requirement is Mac OS X 10.3.9 for this version
This kind of misleading information posted here can cost the publisher a great deal of lost income. Potential buyers may erroneously believe that it will not work on their machines and not download it or purchase it, based on the Download.com listing.
