"Very Disappointed in MicroMat"
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I have purchased and used every version of TechTool since its inception in the early 90s. I used to get such a kick out of the female voice announcing all the tests and results in the early version. I have also registered every version of software I own, and I have purchased a LOT of software since the mid 1980s.
Fast forward to now. I upgraded my latest purchased version of TechTool Pro to version 5.0.7. Suddenly, the TTP daemon is using 90+ percent of my CPU. I don't know why; perhaps it's having a conflict with another piece of software or an earlier version's remains. So I go to MicroMat's web site to get tech support.
No go. MicroMat won't even talk to me until I register my software. Wait a minute... I have registered all my software. Now, in order to get tech support, I have to re-register under what I guess is a new system. I'll have to dig for the discs, but there is just too much going on right now. I have a unique name, and I'd bet MicroMat could find it in there registration log, but no, can't do that.
To add insult to injury, when I select the TTP preferences now, all I get is a beach ball. Launch TTP, and the offending daemon is "resurrected". Basically, TTP is useless for me right now. When I can find the software, I'll register again, but in the meantime I think MicroMat could do a better job of addressing this issue. It's not a fluke or an isolated incident. I checked their online forums, but there are so many posts about different issues that I'd have to spend days trying to find a relevant thread. I'm not happy and I'm sure customers will be lost over this one.
