"WARNING!!! I was able to recover files after using eraser."

    August 30, 2007  |   By gaspants

I thought I liked it but now I'm not so sure...

I wanted to erase my c drives unused space so I can give my computer away with the os still intact. So I ran eraser twice, using its over-write 3 times facility. Then to test it I ran CIA Unerase. And I was able to recover THOUSANDS of intact files!!!

    Seems like it doesnt work!!!

Did you actually check the contents of those "thousands" of files? Were they your personal files?

Eraser, after repeated wipes of your hard drive, as an extra layer of protections, completely fills up all empty space on your hard drive with BOGUS FILES and then deletes them, so if someone used a program like CIA Unerase, they would find fake files that look totally real. Its designed that way, to fool people. However, they contain no private or personal info. This program is excellent, probably the best free eraser program available. Done properly (at least 7 wipes), there is probably no software in existance that can retrieve erased files.

People, please don't give negative ratings if your own lack of knowledge is the cause of your negative view.
