    "Adequate "quick launch" replacement"

    May 29, 2012  |   By bblackmoor

ObjectDock is an adequate replacement for the "quick launch" in Windows XP, but is pretty useless for Windows 7, as it duplicates some but not all of the functionality of the Windows 7 taskbar.

StarDock's ObjectDock is missing a great deal of everyday functionality that users rely on in the Windows 7 taskbar, so you'll still need to run that if you have ObjectDock. The problem is, the only new feature ObjectDock adds is the "zoom" on the taskbar icons. That's not worth missing access to all of the functionality that the normal taskbar provides.

The worst missing feature is lack of system tray support, which even the full pay version of StarDock's ObjectDock does not have. It cost me $5 to find that out, because the ObjectDock site LIES and says it does have system tray support, and then they only refunded 75% of the purchase cost when I complained about the missing feature and the false claim on their web site.

The software itself would get 2, maybe 3 stars. It does very little, it's pretty redundant with the taskbar, and there are too many things it doesn't do, but what it does do, it does pretty well. However, the poor customer support from StarDock and the false claims in their feature list for the pay version peg this product at 0.5 stars (and I'd give it zero stars if that were an option). Stay away from StarDock: they are snakes.
