"It's a useful tool to have around."

    March 3, 2012  |   By James Denison

    Pros

On some sites, even most sites it works almost perfectly. It also has page sizing which is necessary to create good webpage pdf copies

    Cons

Some font rendering has problems. Also if the resolution setting has the page off the right side of the monitor it may cause a problem in capturing the page. That's easily fixed by changing resolution setting in display properties for interim printing of the page to PDF Creator.

    Summary

Always check the Print Preview in whatever program you are using first to see what the page you want to print to PDF Creator looks like. The PDF Creator will look just like that Print Preview. When using a browser for webpage some will look OK in Print Preview and print OK, some will not. Also Print Preview will tell you how many standard size pages the copy will be. You can use this page count to adjust the page size in the PDF Custom Page size settings in properties so you won't have any page breaks in the PDF of the webpage that is created, which is great for not having pictures on the webpage split between pages. There is a 200 inch limit size on length of webpage size when customized. Here's a couple examples.

First webpage printed great on a customized page size.

Second webpage doesn't print well even on customized page size.

A better choice on some webpages for Firefox users is an add-on called Screen Capture Elite which creates an exact copy of the page to either png or jpg file. It also however must have the webpage width fit the monitor window, so resolution of display properties might be required. Here's an example of the webpage done by Screen Capture Elite which PDF Creator failed to render properly. It however only works in Firefox, whereas PDF Creator works as a printer from any program that sends to a printer.

PDF Creator is a good and useful program and I recommend it as one worth downloading for use at times.
