"OK on Intel MBP, problem on G5/2ghz DP (Server)"
Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Installed with no problems (and no particular visible effect) on my MacBook Pro.
However, on my G5/2ghz DP machine running Leopard Server:
I installed the latest Quicktime update and X.5.2 Server update. After 2 extra reboots, no problems, and software update launched.
Then I downloaded and installed Leopard Graphics Update (this app). The machine rebooted, the screen went blank, and the G5's fans went into Jet Assisted Takeoff mode, they were screaming! I let this run for about 30 seconds, and manually turned off the machine. I let things cool down for a minute or so, rebooted the machine, and it came up just fine.
Running Permissions Repair and Verify Disk (Disk Utility) showed no problems, and so far it's running OK.
This is not the first time an Apple update has put the fans on full blast, I'm not sure what's going on. But I can assure you that those fans will get your attention...
Anyone know what this really does?
