"No Brainer Professional Software"
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
My title says it all. This is a no-brainer download. One of the few truly professional pieces of software that puts the Mac on par with the business world's regard for Windows (i.e. MS Office). My admiration for NeoOffice is tripled by the knowledge that the TWO programmers (still looking for more help!) involved in creating a Mac port for OpenOffice don't get one red cent (nor Sun's support!) for all their loyal labor and time and effort and wallet raiding just to advance the Mac community -- for free! That alone compensates for the "Not Created By Apple, Not For Me!" mindset too many Mac users (i.e. Mac magazines) have nowadays. NeoOffice has replaced Nisus and AppleWorks in my book and ought be the standard that Apple pursues if it wishes to create a REAL productivity suite to rival MS Office.
One more thing. This is BETA, yet I've found it remarkably stable. Yes, it still doesn't totally have the look and feel sprung from the bowels of Apple, but it's a damn impressive effect regardless. Whatever bugs there are I'll gladly pitch than b-i-t-c-h back to the programmers to fix. To scowl and look askance at such a powerful piece of FREE software as NeoOffice is looking a gift horse in the mouth.
Go Get 'Em Ed and Pat!
