"Didn't work for me: Current 27" iMac OS 10.7.5 12GB RAM"

    September 29, 2012  |   By bartbrown

    Pros

    Don't know of any yet.

    Cons

I have standard Retail AND Blu-ray Retail DVDs of the movie "Grand Prix." I installed the Free D/L version of "Mac Bluray Player for Mac" on my iMac.

After installation, the "Mac Bluray Player" app asked me to make "Mac Bluray Player" the default DVD player, which I did.

Played standard DVD version of "Grand Prix" just fine.

Inserted Blu-ray version of "Grand Prix" with ONLY "Mac Bluray Player" open. No go: "Mac Bluray Player" kept popping up "register" window. Until I see how well "Mac Bluray Player" plays Blu-ray discs, I'm not going to pay $60 for this app, so I hit "Cancel" on the "Registration" form, then "Mac Bluray Player" thought about things for a bit, and after 15-20 seconds, ejected Blu-ray disk. Tried 2 or 3 times, no joy.

Then I closed "Mac Bluray Player," so that I had NO app open, and inserted Blu-ray disk. "Mac Bluray Player," would not open, period; after 20 or 30 seconds, Finder ejected the Blu-ray disk. Tried other Blu-ray disks with same result.

    Summary

Obviously, other people are getting this to work, so I'm doing something wrong -- I just have no idea what.

    Any ideas welcomed!

In case no one has replied to you already, you need a blu-ray reader and or writer to view movies on your iMac. You can't just install the software and get a blu-ray disc to play in the Mac's dvd drive.

You don't mention what Bluray drive you're using so I wonder: are you trying to use the installed optical drive on your Mac?
