"Not a bad feature set, but performance is a huge issue"

    March 30, 2010  |   By dcis_steve

    Pros

Does a lot for a little. The software has a ton of features and isn't very costly considering the competition.

    Cons

Even for very powerful computer systems, the software is terribly cumbersome and processor intensive - even when you're not actively using it.

    Summary

If it wasn't for the meta data management software that runs when you start this program, it might not be a bad program to have. However, this meta data manager software which is part of the program does not give you any options on how it should run, and it continues running on your system even after you shut down the VideoStudio software. This part of their software is a MAJOR resource hog. It uses large portions of memory and CPU, plus your hard drive will churn seemingly endlessly, even after it has indexed all your media. I am a graphic designer and programmer, and my computer is far above what most people have sitting on their desks, and I can only imagine what it would do to "regular" computers. The library portion of this software is so bad that I would NOT recommend this to anyone. It's terribly designed and programmed. Even with a few less features, I would be happy to use a competitive product.
