"Probably a good idea initially but now fatally flawed"
Pros
There certainly is a need to protect users against misleading or fraudulent sites.
Cons
WOT's "review" is based on a cursory evaluation of the site - any suspicious keywords lead it to be flagged by the raters, who then refuse to change their ratings even when presented with evidence to the contrary... I was trying to help a friend whose fundraising site was "flagged"... when this was appealed, a response was returned immediately even though the "expert raters" did not even go beyond the home page. A great idea initially, but clearly the developers are overwhelmed by the demand, and lack the time and resources to do a good job.
Summary
Sadly, you can no longer trust WOT - problems with the rating and review system now make this site worthless
