"Stay Away from Zip Cloud!!!"
Pros
None.
Seems Cheap but worthless if you can't get to your backed up files!Cons
Lots of hidden cost, pay extra for basic services. e.g. video files, extra licenses, file size limits, etc.
Cancelation fees, no refunds on all upgrades - read the fine print!
App freezes on Mac (10.8.2) and iOS devices.
Poor navigation online. Need to select files on at a time.
Bad file directories - don't always mirror your original files.
Slow transfers (I have a T1 connection) - got to pay more for faster speeds!
Poor support - they tried to delay my cancelation so that I have to pay for a longer period of service when I cancel.
Bad interface online - they charged me 7 times for the same service upgrade.Summary
I just canceled! Zip Cloud is a rip off and their system doesn't work!!!
Read the fine print when you sign up - they promise full refunds for any reason but in the terms and conditions in fine print, it states that you pay $14.94 cancellation charge. In addition, all upgrades are not refundable (additional license $50, video upgrades $14.95, etc.) Every additional function will cause you more money.) e.g. backing up files over 1 GB, video files, etc. The alternative they tell you is to manually select files one at a time to back up. These then don't go into the original folders as on your computer, but float about in the top directory on the backup server. Idiots!
The online interface is poor - file directory doesn't reflect what is on your computer. You jump through many hoops to get to files. You can never be 100% sure that all your files are there because not everything is backed up.The application on my computer (Mac running 10.8.2) stalls or doesn't update progress so I have no idea what is backed up. Back up is extremely slow (I use a T1 connection.)
You have to pay for the time you've used prior to cancelation which is fair, but again, this isn't made clear. Very poor business policies. Support will try to sell you more services to stall your cancelation so that you pay more. My attempt to cancel via email was delayed by four weeks with constant emails that don't even answer my questions or acknowledge my desire to cancel. Support avoided direct attempts to cancel by trying to sell me more services! They use several different names for the business but they are all the same company http://www.justdevelopit.com. Reviews online are done by the company themselves! The attorney general should start investigating this company.
Just warning as many people as possible. Don't get ripped off like me. I lost about $50 for trying this for a month and then trying to cancel it, which took another month!
