by acm07sa June 22, 2008 5:59 PM PDT: Well this "awful" bar is the stupidest, most useless thing I've ever seen in my life. Why would I find useful this bar when by typing something like an "a" in my browser now I get literally all the pages in my history and bookmarks since almost every single one includes an "a" either in the url or the page title/description. Where is the usefulness and progress here? At least in FF2 you get just the urls that started with "a". Not to mention that most likely on top of that list would have been the fist page on some web site not some last page that I've visited and I have no interest in visiting it again.
And why I can't have an option to turn this ting off !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why all of YOU SMART PEOPLE IN MOZILLA want to be in charge of how I will use my browser's address bar and stripping me from any options here. I hope that all of you in charge of developing of FF3 are reading this and just for your information current pol shows that 47% of the users here on this page actually HATE your new "awesome" bar. I think that this number is more than enough to rethink your strategy with this bar. I am not getting back to IE as someone else suggested but I am so getting Safari. Good luck with this new issue of FF and your goal to increase your market share when 47% of your customers not that are not satisfied but actually hate one very important feature on your browser.; Like this Reply to this comment

The Awesome Bar is like Clippy from Microsoft Office: You know what you're doing, but while you're trying to do it, it pops up and says, "Hey! It looks like you're trying to ...".

by ffuser July 22, 2008 2:17 PM PDT: yes, and we all know what happened to clippy. he got the axe. too much mozilla, too much. I'm staying with 2 until I can have a choice in the matter. I would go crazy without the green arrow button. when developing a web app I ofter use the green arrow to "GO" to the page again since refreshing doesn't do the same thing. quite frustrating indeed. Like others say, read the polls guys. this thing is crap and needs to be turned off easily. It's like you have a deal with the add-on maker or something. You have to use an add-on to get it the way you want it. Why not just make it that way in the first place instead of making people fix it before they can really use it.; Like this


by stinkykong August 11, 2008 3:57 AM PDT: There's surely nothing to add that hasn't been said before. I hate it--or at least not being able to switch it off. Having this search technology is nice in a search bar, not in the URL bar. If I type in "ty" for tyrannasaurusrex.com, I get a link for housebeauTYful.com. Totally a distraction, unrelated, unwanted and out of control. Not a help, not an improvement. I also don't like mayonnaise on hamburgers and don't know anywhere that won't leave it off at my request.

I tried living with it for a week, went back to v2 and found it much less work--a definite relief. BTW, the settings in about:config don't seem to stick. Something brings the defaults back, don't know what that is. More annoying!

Additional gripe: the Passport Officer dude or whatever he's called--that HUGE icon that pops up with every URL and alarms you because their is no certification information. Mozilla's website is a perfect example. If there is any use to this at all, they should at least wait until some websites actually include the desired information, certificate or whatever and reduce the size of the darned thing.
