Loved Musicmatch, worked the way I do, and did it all. I hated what Yahoo did to it. Would like to see the guys behind Musicmatch come out with a new program. I tried itunes but didn't like the way it was organized. I've been using Flac and EAC to record in flac for great quality and using MediaMonkey too. I might like it better once I am used to it. For mtmbob above, a good program will do what you are doing automatically: make folders for artists and folders inside for album.

Over in Koo's column this week, among 250~ responses to a similar thread, several folks noted that MMJB can work in XP and even was not killed by IE7 (but agree cannot work in Vista). Recommendations were to get version 9; others said version 10.x? worked well also. What's the real story about using MMJB with XP and IE7? I too have about 1000 CDs ready and waiting. Thanks

NO! I just bought a new PC and refused Vista. I have some older versions of MMJB and (although I was not thrilled before) want to give it a try since it's on-hand, but do not have lots of time to experiment. Stayed with WordPerfect/Borland and Netscape as long as I could...

I've been a professional musician, sound technician, and recording engineer for over fifteen years. I take my music, and my recording gear seriously.

As others have stated here, with digital music of today, the simplest solutions are the best. I use a seperate 160 GB hard drive to store one copy of my music, and I make a second copy of it on CD, using Nero or the iTunes burner, and a third copy of it on my RCA Lyra MP3 Player. (The latter gets rotated frequently, due to the size of my music collection.) To rip, sync to MP3 player, catalog, edit, play, and download my music, I use Windows Media Player, Audacity, and iTunes. All are free, and all work just fine.

My advice... Don't waste your money on software that is no better (and is sometimes not as good as) what is already on your pc, or can be obtained for nothing. Put that money towards a decent set of surround speakers and a subwoofer for your pc instead! ;-)

WMP11 is lacking a library export tool. I use MixMeister Fusion for mixing, while it isn't cheap, it's a great dj tool. All of my tracks (20,000+) are loaded on a 250 gig hard drive with back up on a 500gig drive. Track files are named by Artist - Track and stored in Alphabetical folders. This way there are less subfolders to wade through and finlenames are simplified. Mixmeister has an export Library feature that allows me to export to a .XLS file so that I can batch edit in Excel. Then once I've made my batch changes I can upload the library and it will automatically make changes to the ID tags. Also recommend simplifying music genres to Rock, R&B, Country etc then making use of sub genres to narrow down tracks.

For a jukebox program WMP11 works well enough but a library import tool like mixmeister would be helpful. There was an exporter avail for WMP9 or 10.

I enjoy media monkey. It allows me to wipe any songs I want from the computer. I couldn't do this from itunes. Itunes has become quite boring! I can't stand the boring interface. The choice of music is good, but that's about all I can say for itunes. I have thaught of getting a mac os computer, but not if it's going to look like itunes!

Media Monkey is easy to use, it's not complicated, and music can be organized better than most media players. I can't live without media monkey.

Also, Foxy tunes is great too! It allows you to change your music right from the toolbar.

I would GREATLY appreciate any help out there in putting my 4,000 plus DVD collection in alphabetical order besides entering each DVD name manually. Please contact me at the following e-mail address with your ideas. Thank you.
