Comments on: Return of the llama: Winamp 5.5 impresses

Winamp and its llama mascot upgrade to 5.5, and continue to impress with a new UI and improved features like in-player browsing. But it's not an iTunes killer...yet.

It's about time.

Winamp has finally grown up. This is the definitive player and is gaining the potential to be a serious threat to iTunes. It's slick, packed with features, and works perfectly with my 3rd gen Nano. Now if I could only convince my friends to stop swilling Apple's kool aid...

A question...
by curtisbusch October 12, 2007 10:15 AM PDT
I must have messed up posting my previous message.

I'm just looking for a program that loves podcasts, especially video.
It must be on my computer, not online.
I have my music elsewhere - so it would be strictly podcasts.
And I'm sick of ITunes.
WIN sounds great, and I'm going to check out the others mentioned by posters above.
Any other ideas, I'd be greatful to give a shot.

Thanks in Advance;
Curt

Burn CD on Winamp
by wmclover October 12, 2007 10:59 AM PDT
I assume most of us burn CDs to play on our car radio and have access to the tags so we can identify the artist as well as avoid having to bring 10 or more CDs to listen to music on long trips. The inability to burn MP3 cds is a real shortcoming to an otherwise fine application.

Music CDs have gone the way of the horse and buggy and I suspect that all this DRM protection nonsense is more about artificially preserving this antiquated hardware rather than protecting artists.

What about the bad´ol´ Windows Media Player?
Yes, it does have very many problems with very many files. But, it is as stable as it gets. Sound output is better than the Apple counterpart, and video is as good as it gets.

The very alternative to any player in any platform, though "ugly" by today standars of whitness and clean aspect and crisp and smooth and "aluminum" fake finishes is VLC.

It does play whatever you throw to it, and it is a valid "check" program to see whether your encoding has been propperly done.

You can "pretty up" VLC by getting skins for it.
