Pidgin for the win
by Magishine October 4, 2007 2:14 PM PDT
I've hated AIM since the update to version 6. Before that it was actually pretty good, but now it, like AOL, has become bloated with useless features. On top of that, it takes forever to load and is pretty clunky in my experiences.

DON'T DOWNLOAD AIM 6.5 !
by CarFreak8394 October 4, 2007 6:35 PM PDT
Ok, this is what happened.
I use AIM every day, and whenever AIM gets an update, I usually download it.
Well when I saw the bulletin here, I said ok, I'll give it a try.
Well thinking it would be great, I downloaded it and messed up my whole computer.
Thank god I uninstalled it.
But now I am back to AIM 5.9.
Before I was using 6.1, but now I can't download it.
How about from now on, you guys tell us if it will mess up our computers.
Thanks.

Will the problems ever end...
by chasers91 October 4, 2007 7:46 PM PDT
Why is it that i always have problems with AIM. The other 6.0 version of AIM always froze up and had to uninstall it and use the old AIM 5.9. I download this and it just randomly exits out of AIM. I will be Instant Messaging someone and it will just close and i have to re-open the whole program. I dont know if AOL is working on these problems or if they will have these problems forever. See if you have luck with it but i never have any luck with AIM.

Trillian > Aim
by Brad24 October 4, 2007 8:48 PM PDT
I dont know how many of you know this but I'm gonna reccommend trillian instead of aim. Aim always lagged badddddly on my desktop and laptop and was always signing on and off and stuff. i'd reccommend a program called Trillian, u just type in ur aim sn and ur password and itll sign right up, u dont have to load ur buddy lists or anything, but ive had it for 2 or 3 years now with problems and it runs a lot better on my comp. just my 2 cents.

Love the Look, Hate the Code... (DO NOT INSTALL)
by newdeepdan October 4, 2007 10:14 PM PDT
Do these people actually test out their code on machines? or do they think that they can just make us the testers...

I installed the darned update thinking that I take a shot at it and well it totally screwed up my machine. I'm running vista home prem. and it killed itunes (wouldn't play any of songs) and then secondly when I startup, my network icon on the taskbar would tell me what's going on, but it doesnt! It doesn't connect! or so it seems. It in fact connects but the taskbar network icon get screwed up and the computer lags for hours cause I assume its trying to figure out what's wrong too. It was only after I uninstalled it that everything worked as it should except for the network icon issue. That I had to google for, and apparently it was a problem that someone had reported in the betas of 6.5.

So basically word of warning to everyone, do not install it. I've currently gone back to using trillian, and it looks like I'm probably sticking to it for a while.
