I've noticed that the people who mock Winamp are usually the people who haven't used it since 1998. It's a great program, much better than iTunes, especially for Windows users.

Oh, absolutely. iTunes is only useful for PC users if you've got an iPhone to sync - I switched first to Winamp, but then quickly jumped to MediaMonkey (and I sync it with a 5G iPod.) That doesn't mean that Winamp hasn't been slow to improve.

Agreed.

winamp "does thejob" but very simple with lack of sound quality and filters.
jetaudio is the most complete and and with great sound quality that supports up to 32bit sound cards.
after this there's no going back to winamp....

I totally agree with the previous comment. Winamp with Bento is really pretty good. Syncing (even with IPod) autotag and webradio are pretty nice. No need for stupid iTunes.

Winamp never distorts sound unlike itunes and wmp.
Winamp's sound is only distorted if the file itself is distorted or stereo is distorting the music.

I actually have temptations to mock people who use slow and bloated crap like "iTunes". I regularly use Winamp due to superior sound quality and ease of use. For syncing and tagging I use the vastly superior Media Monkey.. garbage like iTunes is for novices who do not know any better.

Winamp is the Firefox of media players for audio and video.

Best features include the 12 band EQ, thousands of plugins, my fav is the one for IR remotes. I use the one for Creative Audigy 2 ZS and the entire remote works, so I end up getting a free media center PC. Plus I've seen plugins for HID devices and Windows media center remotes as well.

And whoever says its bloated, need to check their facts, e.g.: iTunes is 75.07MB and Winamp is only 9.80MB (Fuly loaded), Lite is only 6.46MB.

Lately Nullsoft has done a noteworthy job of integrating hundreds of free AOL & CBS radio stations, plus there's the old SHOUTcast as well. And its also a media aggregator, so I can stream all my RSS subscribed podcasts (Go TwiT!) through Winamp as well.

Go Winamp Devs!

Death to iTunes. Slow, clunky, if Apple wants to mock PC's they should get out of the PC business.

Its true in a way, Winamp has been surpassing WMP and ITunes for many years now. True, certain version upgrades has proved sluggish and viewed as a bad choice. However it is quick to be corrected, and who is to say that it is slower than WMP and Itunes? I agree, with Bento, people would now view Winamp with a better light than before.

The auto-tag feature of Winamp also surpasses that of the ITunes tagging, as one does not need to go through the process of registering an ITunes account. Not everyone is in possession of a credit card, and even then, not every country supports the Apple Store. Therefore, Winamp provides the solution to these problems.

The Scrobling comes with a twist, though, as now, people can stream playlists~ Applause~

It's true that anybody who mocks winamp about being bloated needs to see an eye doctor, but I personally use MediaMonkey because it can sync to my iPod and has all the great features of WinAmp.
