Comments on: What CL Desktop has on Craigslist (and what it doesn't)

The new Craigslist service runs on Adobe AIR and mostly mirrors Craigslist online--with a few exceptions.

I just checked this out and this is really cool. Killer UI for CL. I use CL quite often. In the days of old, I thought the CL UI was a breath of fresh air, but it wore me out.

Really nice work.

It only works for USA, Canada and Germany, which is no use to me. =[

Otherwise, it looks really handy

What country are you in?
We add countries based on user demand. (That's why Canada and Germany are there. Those folks are very demanding)
Best way to demand is to use the built in Feature Request tool in CL Desktop.

Will do.
UK is actually already on the list to do next as it's been requested through the Feature Request tool in CL Desktop.
Stay tuned, an automatic update will happen once we add it.
Cheers

What is really needed for craigslist power-users is a UI, utility or script that A) gets around braindead CL search engine problems (ie, not being able to search for anything with a "+" character in a string anywhere, inability to do complex searches and other faults), B) does a good job of hiding previously-seen results and C) does PUSH posting notifications.

I used to accomplish "C" by using a very customizable add-in Firefox RSS reader (InfoRSS) loaded with custom CL search strings, but I got tired of babysitting InfoRSS with its bugs and quirky interface. When it was working and Firefox was running, it would show a ticker in Firefox of new posts that met my search criteria. Now that's what I call a real improvement in search efficiency.

For a decent web coder it would seem fairly simple to create such an application. Frankly I'm surprised it doesn't already exist. I periodically look for one, haven't found it yet.

Good ideas.
We'll add them to the CL Desktop Feature To Do list.
Best way to do Feature Requests is right from within CL Desktop. That feeds directly into our project tracking system.

I should mention that there is a dedicated Firefox add-in called Craigzilla that does some of what I mention. I haven't tested it:

I use CraigsPal's CraigsList Reader Pro, this is pretty slick also.
