My concern over this software stems from its use of the term "malware." At the end of the video Seth says that it does not detect viruses, only malware. If you look up "malware" at dictionary.com, the American HeritageŽ Science Dictionary says "Software that is written and distributed for malicious purposes, such as impairing or destroying computer systems. Computer viruses are malware." There are other citations listed there confirming that viruses are indeed malware. We really need to know, does this product detect viruses? If not, the name needs to be changed before the company faces a class action lawsuit.

where the hell can a class action suit come in? this program works great along with an antivirus program. antivirus programs will remove and quarantine the viruses where Malwarebyte's will get into the Windows registry and remove the entries.

I think the name is appropriate. This GREAT program detects and cleaned malware as spywares but also viruses. It detects viruses that my avast antivirus missed. I bought real protection and it saves from an infection that was not detected by avast. I recommend it.

I LOVE THIS APP! It found the nasty stuff that no other anti-nastyware found and obliterated it.

This is like my 2nd review in over 15 years. I only give a comment when a program works or fails. And Malwarebytes saved my system.

I think people are not getting what I am saying. At the end of the video Seth said that it does not detect viruses, only malware. Viruses are malware. I like the product but malwarebytes.org mentions the threat of viruses yrt never directly says that it can remove them. It is only when you register for helpdesk support that you get access to the FAQ that mentions,

"Is Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware enough protection or do I still need an anti-virus?
Malwarebytes' Anti-malware is superior against malware, however it is recommended to have a good anti-virus in place to protect against other intrusions. We suggest AntiVir as your anti-virus solution. "

They need to come clear about whether it removes viruses or not. If not, the name of the product is misleading. I'm just sayin'.

Although the product is not a replacement for an anti-virus it does in fact detect & remove certain viruses. For example see here,

http://www.malwarebytes.org/malwarenet.php?name=Virus.Sality
http://www.malwarebytes.org/malwarenet.php?name=Virus.Virut

Just clearing it up is all!

Just because I love you guys, and I wanted a definitive answer, here is the response from Malwarebytes to me when I asked them if it removed viruses:

"Hello and welcome to the helpdesk. Thank you for choosing Malwarebytes as your security solution, my name is Tom Mercado and I'll be assisting you today.

While viruses, worms trojans, adware, spyware and malware appear to be similar, with the line blurring each and every week, they are indeed very different in their actions.

We may pick up on some viruses due to the similarities that some exhibit to malware and our heuristic scanning, but we will not get even a large percentage of them, same for worms.

So you'll still need an antivirus application installed.

As for the 'definition' of virus & malware, here are two links below which give pretty good descriptions of each and how they differ.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malware

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_virus "

So it does not detect all malware but it does pick up a lot that your main antivirus solution misses. Case closed. I still like this product.

SEMANTICS! I have yet to come across an a-v, malware, spyware freebie that does everything. Many have different aspects & functions. Are you marketing a particular product? I've found MalwareBytes very useful finding rubbish others don't & File Assasin is a most helpful tool. Get your hand off it...(the dictionary)

MBAM is very good at detecting AND REMOVING the latest and most persistent malware (eg: xp antivirus 2008). It's excellent removal abilities is one of the best things about the program. It is the first thing I run if I'm fixing someone's malware laden computer.

I like the install procedure because you can download the program installer and the latest definitions. This means you can install and scan a machine with no functioning internet access, and in safemode. This is useful if a machine is very messed up, or you're afraid to connect it to the net, but you can still ferry files over on a usb key.

The free program is an on-demand scanner, meaning you tell it when to scan, not on-access like most antiviruses, though you can pay to get the plus version that does. Personally I never have malware problems so an on-access scanner isn't necessary. I don't go to shady sites, and only download files from trusted places like download.com.

I downloaded Malewaresbytes'-antimalware and liked it. But, it also downloaded Norton's antivirus as well. Which is fine, but when you scan with it, it requires a subscription to delete the bad scans!

Installed Malwarebytes last week and am very impressed!
By the way they also maintain an equally impressive, moderated forum - should you run into any trouble whilst using their software.
I do use Norton AntiVirus 2005 as well, and am unsure as to whether my free version of Malwarebytes (which, of course, does not run in real-time) will conflict with Norton when I run a MBAM scan - if I don't remember to disable Norton before doing so.
Would appreciate any input......

For the lawschool graduates: class action suit? Puhleez, cut some slack and find a life.
For those who are interested in software that works - by any name, MB is it. Functions quickly, works like a charm on both XP and Vista, and finds stuff Spybot doesn't and that AdAware is not designed for. Use it regularly with a good antivirus program and a hardware or software firewall, and all should be well (unless you INSIST on clicking on those links in your spam e-mail.)
