Comments on: The home stretch: Skype's third 4.0 beta

Skype releases its third, and most likely final, beta before its version 4.0 release. History is here, but where are the other promised features?

In the end, I'll bet that Skype remains one of the clumsiest software applications you can use on a Mac.

F Skype!!!

I personally have an account with them i can no longer use. According to them I don't have voicemail (which I paid for two years in advance) and can no longer call anyone anywhere atall because the service I paid them for no longer exists according to them.

All of this I have reciepts for but wouldn't you know it... there isn't anyone to call no one answers the email address and all i have ever gotten from them is an automated response.
So i reitterate F Skype and I will do my best to ensure NO ONE I KNOW ever uses the service again. How many people did they do this too i wonder.

If you have proof, just take them to small claims court instead of just complaining. It's easier than you think.

I had prepaid skype, it only had a tenner in it but because I didn't use it they cancelled the account and took mt tenner. Imagine them doing this with a million customers, they would make 10 m quid! Too small for amll claims court & very unfair practise.

I can see why you would be annoyed, but they do warn users of these things. I've been using Skype Paid services for about 4 years now. Admittedly, I was a bit miffed when they changed the old SkypePro to the new Skype subscription model, but now I'm using it all much more effectively.

I now have a Skype WorldWide subscription including Voicemail, 6 SkypeIn numbers, and now several accounts for all my employees, all under my Skype for Business account - all no problem, and I usually get a response from Skype within 48 hours.

On average, I spend anywhere from 10? to 250? a month on Skype services and SkypeOut (but it beats the hell out of the 1500?+ phone bills each that I would have spent with my cellphone provider - who now only gets about 70? including a 3.5G Data Connection with which I use... Skype!)

Skype also tells you when you add Skype credit that it is only valid for (I think) 6 months, and I get the reminder emails which tell me "Your Skype number/voicemail/subscription/etc will run out in xx days" - so in my opinion, if you're ignoring those, it's not entirely Skype's fault.

It works just fine for my Apple, and anyone that I know hasn't complained. Skype has Windows and Lite for non-smartphones. It's a great move for Microsoft, trying to gain on the iPhone... There's an interesting article here.

It works great on my Mac too. I've never had a single problem.

It works great. I use it every single day for work. In fact, I've been using Skype for years, when I first started having major problems with Vonage. Skype has been much more reliable than Vonage; so much so that I cancelled my Vonage account last year and no exclusively use Skype.

I've been using the Netgear skype phone SPH200D which works well, but since I recently learned how to pair my bluetooth headset with my computer, I really enjoy using the desktop Skype app.

If you haven't given it a fair try - do so! I have unlimited calling for US and Canada with my own phone number and voicemail for about $60 per year.

I have been using Skype4 beta 2 for some time now. Seems to work very well, however sometimes the other party can't hear me very well.
There should also be a way that one can see if the person you wish to have a video chat with, is not already chatting to someone else!

My friend rings me on Skypeand often either one of us can't hear the other clearly due to latent dropping out or static. This problem needs to be addressed.

Skype is maybe the greatest invention after telephone itself. I use it since October 2006 and had followed through all its advance and it is a jewell that we all that hate the abuse of the telecoms of the world should support. I am very happy with the service and in my opinion one of the greatest software companies in the world like Google, Nintendo, Dell and Mozilla. Every company that has some dignity should avoid interlacing with Microsoft which is interested only in monopoly and making more money as a consequence. Hail to Skype for a long life amongst us. I always am affraid that some day a big telecom just buy them out and shutt off as a way of not having competition .. everything that Microsoft is always fighting for. SO, support Skype.

Yes I also have had the sad experience of no response to e-mails I have sent to Skype. A mystery for me is how does one make additional (sometimes required) keypad responses when prompted to do so by a voice robot that offers a series of options e.g "press 1 for new accounts" "press 2 for existing accounts" and so on. I am sure you get my drift but has anyone an answer for me please? Apart from that mystery I am generally satisfied with the service.
