My favorite apps: YouNote, WritingPad, eWallet,GraphCalc and a2zPRO. Not your average list, I bet, but these are great, very useful apps, mostly free but none more than $0.99. Check them out!
Workaround: My workaround has been to *NEVER* update over the phone. Always update apps in iTunes, and then sync. It is a shame, but that is what I've been doing to keep my sanity.
BTW, iTunes is so slow in responding to my clicks. Is that how it has always been? I hope Apple can relieve us from HAVING to use iTunes.
This is an annoying problem but the recent OS upgrade certainly increased the speed of "installing" apps and updates.
The other free app I like is Urbanspoon. Good for finding places to eat, although I haven't delved too far into it.

- Jason... I just downloaded Opera 9.6 and saw immediately that I have a problem... It's for 'INTEL' only. Your download site doesn't say this; just the OS is stated... Unless there is a 9.6 version for prior Intel CPU's that I missed, I suggest adding the 'Intel' requirement to your comments
