Comments on: Top defrag utility: IOBit Smart Defrag

If your computer seems sluggish, one of the first things you should try is defragging your hard drive. Jason Parker just found a program that just hit it's full release Version 1.0 and it might be the best he's seen yet.

Wow, really great! Better than Auslogics Disk Defrag, faster and smarter!

Great find! Thanks. I just ran AusLogics Disk Defrag last night and was looking, for the umpteenth time, for a autoshutdown feature. Instead I had to cover up my laptops screen in my hotel room while the defrag did its stuff. Wasted life on the laptop screen, wasted energy. This one sounds like a worth replacement!

It can defrag several drives including partitions simultaneously. This is much better than Auslogics Disk Defrag.

This is really great. I tested it on lap and desk top. 8% increase on desktop and 11% on laptop. a must have if you work on other people's system. I've set my Vista to defrag once a month. This one for every night.

Major bug!
My computer went on Standby as I was defragging a USB external drive. Windows had 3 messages:
1. Data lost file $BitMap
2. Data lost file $Mft
3. Recycling Bin corrupted; must empty.
Programs with nice features aren't worth it if unsafe.
Thanks anyway but I uninstalled.

I too used Auslogics Disc Defrag and really liked it, until Smart Defrag was released. It is much better, has more options and is faster that Auslogics. I highly recommend using this Defrag program. I use it on all my computers, running Vista and Windows XP.

YOUR STATEMENT, IT OPTIMIZES FILE LOCATION - I Agree with this,

BUT THE FOLLOW-UP ------ AND FREE SPACE IS NOT TRUE--------

I used it on an xp machine, a lot of free clusters were left empty in the front of the disk, the middle and obviously the back.

You say:
"The full scan time for my test machine's 75GB hard drive (without optimization) took just over 4 minutes."
Well, i just downloaded it to see if that true, and i started 2 minutes ago on my Depp Inspiron 6000 40gb laptop...and it says 1:07:46 right this second as i type left in scan...!!!
Of course, you used a "test machine" with nothing in it, or little files/programs...
Oh wait...now it's 58:15 left...sheeesh, what a liar: 4 minutes, my butt!
All defrags take forever people!
...now back to 1:02:18...forget about it...use it when shutting down...
...1:06:29....

It has a "Shutdown computer when job is done" feature, that's quite useful. We don't need to wait for it finishing its job but sleep.
