The SpeakWrite app lets you easily record dictation and send it to SpeakWrite, a transcription service that promises to return your typed document in about three hours. Although we can't speak to the quality of SpeakWrite's services, the app, itself, functions just fine.
SpeakWrite has an intuitive interface featuring an image of a microphone and a large, clearly labeled "Record" button. Just press the button, begin speaking, and press "Pause" when you're done. You can then save the file within the app or click the "Submit" button to send the file to SpeakWrite for transcription. This feature requires a SpeakWrite account, and you'll be asked to enter your account number and PIN. If you don't have a SpeakWrite account, you can still use the app to save dictated audio files, though in that case there's no real advantage to using SpeakWrite over the native Voice Memos app. The app also lets SpeakWrite account holders record phone calls -- a nice touch. SpeakWrite seems like a great service for writers, lawyers, or anyone who's too busy to sit down and type out their thoughts. If you already use SpeakWrite's transcription services, the iOS app makes it even easier to get your dictation into the hands of SpeakWrite's typists.
SpeakWrite installs and uninstalls without issues.
