Review: Spotify lets you stream the music you want to listen to anytime, anywhere

Stream your favorite artist, album, or playlist from your iPhone or iPad.

Spotify lets you pick the music you want to listen to and stream it for free on your iPhone or iPad. Browse albums by your selected artist or similar artists, or try out playlists that other users have put together. Like Pandora, Spotify doesn't have access to stream absolutely everything, but there is still a huge variety of popular and obscure tracks, artists, and albums to choose from. And unlike Pandora, you can pick exactly what you want to listen to on Spotify.

When you open Spotify for the first time, you will have to set up an account. To have full access to all of the features of the app, you need to sign up for a premium membership for $10/month. But even if you don't want to pay, various options for streaming music are available depending on which device you're using. On the iPhone, you can pick an artist, album, or playlist and listen to it on shuffle mode. On the iPad, you can choose individual songs to stream, and there are ads interspersed between the songs once in a while if you're using the free version of the app.

If you do choose to purchase a premium membership, you'll enjoy ad-free streaming of any songs Spotify has anytime you want to hear them. You can also create your own playlists or listen to those other users have put together. Now that streaming is enabled with a free account on mobile devices, there's really no reason not to try Spotify. It works smoothly, the interface is streamlined and intuitive, and the music selection is excellent.
