Review: GoodPlayer for Android offers quality video and audio playback

Play any video or audio file on your smartphone or tablet using GoodPlayer for Android.

GoodPlayer for Android gives you all the format support, features, and playback you demand from a mobile video player. It does everything you'd expect it to do and does it all incredibly well. If you're still using the default player on your phone, this is a major upgrade.

This app plays any audio or video file it can find on your gadget. It doesn't take any time to scan your device for video files, but still does an excellent job of finding most of the videos other apps would find. It does have some difficulty finding videos that are associated with other apps, though. The files it does find are presented in a helpful menu that organizes your videos into a handful of descriptive folders. While that may overwhelm some, most people will enjoy the automatic organization. GoodPlayer for Android worked with downloaded or streaming videos and had no trouble playing every format we used with it during testing. It supports multiple aspect ratios and playlists for video or audio, as well. The app's menu goes away completely when you're watching a video, which makes fullscreen the default play style. The app does make room for an obnoxious banner ad in the top of the player when it's paused, though. However, that's an annoying reality of many apps that don't even come close to matching this one in features.

While GoodPlayer for Android might not do enough to win you away from an app of similar quality, it certainly merits discussion among all of the great video players you already know on Android. Give it a try if you're in the market for a new player.
