Review: Get your music under control with Toones Music Player

Easily control your music with gestures with this useful app.

Toones Music Player is an audio player that makes it easy to control your music using gestures. If you find the native iOS music app to be kind of clumsy to use, Toones Music Player is a nice alternative.

Toones has an attractive interface, though we weren't a fan of the black text against the dark gray background that's used to display the artists' names. That was our only real complaint, though. Buttons across the top let users view their music sorted by track name, album, artist, or playlist. What really sets Toones apart is its controls: tap the center of the screen to play or pause music, tap the top of the screen to increase the volume or the bottom to decrease it, tap the left or right side of the screen to skip between tracks, and toggle shuffle off and on by touching anywhere with two fingers. A helpful tutorial walks new users through each of these functions, and it took us no time at all to get accustomed to them. We found this to be a much easier way to control our music than the native music app, and it's especially nice if you're busy doing something else, such as driving or exercising. We're actually surprised that Apple hasn't integrated these controls into its own app; but until it does, Toones Music Player is a great alternative.

Toones Music Player installs and uninstalls without issues.
