Convert YouTube to MP3 applies to the developer, this freeware, and its function; namely, to convert audio tracks from YouTube videos into MP3s you can play anywhere. It can process batches and save files in several high-quality formats like AAC and Ogg Vorbis. It's easy to use, but it proved a little clunky, too, and its installer includes a few too many "extras." Although you can decline them, these optional downloads might trigger your security software, as happened with ours.
After several attempts, we were able to install Convert YouTube to MP3. The program's user interface is very plain but not unattractive. Its main tab, Downloads, has fields for entering YouTube URLs and selecting a destination folder, and we could select Preferred Quality: MP3, ranging from 22kHz/64kbs (just awful) to 44kHz/192kbs (much better); or Video, with settings optimized for playback on video gear (or Best Available). We pasted a target and pressed "Start." The program quickly converted the 2:37 cartoon's soundtrack to an MP3, but it froze when we tried to return from the Progress tab to the Download tab. In the end, we had to close it via the Task Manager. We tried again with a different video and got better performance, but the program balked at opening the destination folder, which wasn't the one we'd set before. However, once again it converted the file.
Although Convert YouTube to MP3 performed adequately at it main task, its bugginess suggests you try one of the many other tools that grab and convert audio from YouTube, which is full of free music, sometimes unavailable anywhere else.
