Review: iSwiff for Mac enables you to play locally stored Flash games or animations without a browser

Play Flash games offline without any complications by running them through this fast and lightweight app.

iSwiff for Mac allows you to run Flash games and applications in fullscreen directly from your hard drive. Because it automatically associates itself with SWF files, access to your favorite games is just a double tap away. But don't expect it to play Flash files designed to be played only from the Web.

iSwiff for Mac comes with a README file and a small but useful guide to sites for downloading Flash games. The app's interface is quite minimalistic -- actually, non-existent. You load games by either double-tapping them in Finder or by using the Open option in the app's File menu. The app keeps its minimalist style even in the Preferences window, with just two options to adjust, one being a fullscreen mode. When comparing the app's performance with that of Safari, we found that it needs on average 90 percent less memory than the browser, while the processor load was roughly the same. The great thing about this app is that it allows you to play Flash games, animations, and videos without the need to open your Web browser or even be connected to the Internet. Another great thing is that you will be able to enjoy playing your favorite games without the annoying flashy ads that are common when playing games online.

If you want to play basic Flash games without having to go online, iSwiff for Mac can be useful. The lack of clutter and the fullscreen option guarantee a seamless and distraction-free gaming experience that you will no doubt enjoy. However, don't expect to be able to play online Flash games with this app.
