Review: My Singing Monsters is a clever, entertaining take on a village builder

Place and hatch monsters to grow your collection of singing monsters.

My Singing Monsters is a new take on the increasingly popular village-builder category on the App Store. You are tasked with raising and teaching various types of monsters how to sing in your village. With multiple resource types, timers for when you can select and hatch certain monsters, and plenty of mechanics so you can enjoy the fruits of your labor, My Singing Monsters was a pleasantly surprising free iOS game.

My Singing Monsters takes a couple of minutes to load up the first time as it downloads new assets and finalizes the installation. After this first install, however, it runs smoothly in the background so you can load it up fairly fast. You'll be walked through the basics of the game world including how to choose and raise your monsters. The process takes only a couple of minutes, although you will need to wait for the timers to go off between tasks, and there are those elements of other village builders here, such as being able to pay for resources that will speed up those timers. That's a standard, however, and with a nice suite of features, attractive sprites, and plenty of creativity in the gameplay, My Singing Monsters is a great take on this genre.

If you are eager for a new village-builder app, love monsters, or want something that's just silly enough to unwind with at the end of a long day or on the bus or train, consider downloading this app. It's free to play and while there are paid options available, none of them are required.
