Review: McTube offers local play for YouTube and other useful features

This third-party YouTube client is loaded with added tools for your iOS device.

McTube is a third-party YouTube client that offers a number of added features and tools to your phone. From cached downloads so you can watch YouTube videos on the go to streamlined log-in features for commenting, sharing, and interacting with videos on your mobile device, this is a great all-around mobile video app.

When you load McTube for the first time, you can start watching videos right away. The top list consists mostly of the top-rated videos on YouTube ever, not necessarily recent videos. You can search or browse through categories, though, as you would in any YouTube app. You can also log in and start loading your playlists, and there is an option to save videos to your cache, choosing the dimensions when applicable to save space. The entire app is iOS 7-styled, so it looks fantastic and runs smoothly and without any issue in the newest iOS versions. Combined with clearly labeled menus and fast load times, the interface in this app is as good as, if not better than, the first-party YouTube app. The only thing that holds it back is the ad support that eats up the middle of the page.

If you are looking for a third-party YouTube app that will provide all of the functions of YouTube without a log-in, or if you want to save videos to your local cache for offline playback on the train or when on a cellular connection, this is the app for you. It's free, it's easy to use, and it offers every option you could want in a sleekly designed package.
