Review: Joe VLC Player offers loads of features and can play any mobile video

Play all of your gadget's audio and video from the same stylish player you're used to.

Joe VLC Player is a feature-packed video player that can handle just about any video format you throw at it. It takes the VLC player you've grown accustomed to and ports it to smartphones and tablets. If you love this popular open-source media player and want the same experience on your smartphone or tablet, this is probably the closest you will get.

Though Joe VLC Player gives you the same format support as the original, it offers a bit more mobile style. For starters, the app lists all of the videos on your gadget, complete with thumbnail previews, in one menu. That means you can watch any video already on your phone without having to search. You can make playlists of your favorite videos, as well. The app has a treasure trove of advanced settings that let you change its layout, player, and even hardware acceleration. Like you'd expect, the app has no problem playing any video it finds on your gadget, though it did take a few minutes to hunt down all of the videos on our phone. The app even matches the signature orange design accents you've come to expect from VLC.

For all intents and purposes, this is the app version of the acclaimed desktop player. Joe VLC Player is a gift to Android users who have a collection of videos spanning multiple formats. It will play them all without trouble, and add a nice touch of style while doing it.
