mixd.tv for Mac allows you to quickly search for videos from a variety of Internet sources, including Vimeo, YouTube, and blip.tv, and play them in the application window without having to wait for them to be downloaded to your computer. Unfortunately, on OS X 10.8.5 the app seems unstable and suffers from performance issues. The log-in freezes, in particular, will cause you a lot of frustration.
At around 67MB this app is quite large and, depending on your Internet connection speed, it might take a while to download. To use mixd.tv for Mac you need to create an account by providing a username, password, and an e-mail address. This didn't really go smoothly for us and it seemed that the account creation process doesn't work properly. We managed to populate all the required fields but couldn't proceed with the registration as the app kept performing a search for the availability of our username. We also tried using our Facebook log-in to create an account, but after repeated attempts, failed to connect to the app server. What's more, the app became unresponsive, forcing us to quit it. At length, we finally managed to create an account, but then we ran into performance issues: The YouTube video we tried to view played with lag and glitches. Not everything was bad, though. We liked the mini-video player that lets you watch a video clip while continuing to browse video sources. Overall, this app seems promising, but it failed to operate properly on our MacBook Air with OS X 10.8.5 installed.
All things considered, mixd.tv for Mac falls short of expectations, as it's obviously not optimized for Mountain Lion. If you're looking for a quick way to search for videos from multiple sources, this app might be of some use; but you will want to find an alternative solution for playback. Perhaps, if you have one of the older versions of OS X, you'll have more luck with this app.
