Review: Pump up the volume beyond stock parameters with Easy Volume Booster

Increase the amount of audible sound emitting from your device using Easy Volume Booster.

Easy Volume Booster promises to increase the media player, ringer, and alarm volume of your device, but is packed with add-ons that bring some pretty intrusive advertising. During our tests we used videos in different formats and MP3 files from different albums to test the sound increase, and there was a difference -- but not as much as we expected.

While the installation goes fairly trouble-free, there is a noticeable amount of permissions Easy Volume Booster requires. Once you install the application, you will be greeted with a message stating that a search tool, bookmark, and Web browser home page will also be installed to help support the free application. Fortunately, you can opt out of these extras if you're not interested. The user interface features a large image of speakers, and a volume bar at the bottom of the screen. There are also three icons that enable enhancement of media player, alarm, and ringer volume on your device. Once these icons are highlighted, the volume can be adjusted for each type of sound. There was an increase, but even at top volume, the increase was only around 10 percent. If you choose to install this application with the add-ons, the app will enable pop-up, full screen ads that will appear even when the application is not being used.

While free and reasonably functional, Easy Volume Booster's advertisement strategy might be distracting to users who choose to support this app. Even if you opt out of the extras, you might not see the volume increase you're looking for.
