Review: Thomas Analog Movie Camera offers numerous filters for video recording

Record movies, change their background appearance, and save for future sharing.

Thomas Analog Movie Camera is an easy-to-use video camera for the iPhone with numerous filters, but it offers limited options in its free iteration. For recording basic, short movies, however, it performs well on many levels, offering a clean interface, push button recording feature, and numerous unlockable filters that you can pay for as you need them.

The app opens to a camera screen that instructs you to press and hold the screen to record. Release at any time and it stops recording, very similar to apps like Vine, but without the time restrictions. Once you record a video, it is saved in a folder with other Thomas videos that can be edited, deleted, or shared with people on your contacts list or through connected social media accounts. Everything about Thomas oozes with style and theme, from turning on the flash to manipulating your videos with filters. Thomas's editing options are severely limited, but if you want to record something quickly and make it look good before sharing, this app will get the job done.

A lot of work went into making Thomas as smooth and easy to use as possible. It lacks depth in its free iteration, requiring paid upgrades to unlock more interesting and impressive filters; but even without those filters, the app is fun to use and offers a sense of style that others in this category often lack.
