Review: InsText creates Instagram ready photos with text on them

Add text to your photos with numerous editing options built-in.

InsText is designed to add text to photos in your photo library or to those you take with your camera while using the app. It's not an overly-powerful app, nor does it do a whole lot that you can't do with other photo editing apps, but if you find yourself in need of a basic text editor for photos, it's a great streamlined, easy-to-use app that does this one thing very well.

When you open InsText, you can load an image from your library or take a new one with your camera and then start adding text to it right away. Tap the insert text button and type your message and it will be automatically added to the screen. You can then change font size, type, and color with the options at the bottom of the screen before finalizing. All images are cropped to Instagram size, too, so you can quickly export and upload to the site when done. Additional photo editing options would have been a nice touch -- an Aviary suite, if nothing else -- but even without it, the text editing tools are nicely integrated and there are plenty of share options.

If you want to add text to images and don't need a large number of other editing tools, then InsText is a great app for you. It's well constructed, not overly bogged down by features, and it is free, with no intrusive ads onscreen. Combined with solid social integration, this is a good app for anyone who edits text on pictures, frequently.
