Review: Songza for Android offers ad-free listening, and sharing & playlist options

Listen to playlists made by music experts using powerful Songza for Android.

Songza for Android provides great audio quality, a huge number of playlists, and a stylish layout in a free package. It's become one of the most popular streaming radio apps thanks to its one-of-a-kind music concierge service. That awesome feature is backed up with enough other goodies to make this an essential app for music fans. It may even pull you away from Spotify, Pandora, and the rest.

You have to sign up before you get started, but the app lets you use your Google or Facebook accounts for quicker access. Unlike other streaming apps, Songza for Android doesn't ask you for your current music taste or a list of bands to make playlists. Instead, it lets you choose music based on what you could be doing at that time of the day. You'll get party playlists for Saturday nights and great office playlists for Tuesday afternoon. If those don't work for you, you can search by mood and genre, as well. The playlists, themselves, are compiled by music bloggers, reviewers, and the app's savvy staff. Some of the playlists repeat after a while, but you'll usually get at least two to three hours of new music. Unlike other apps, there are no ads during the music, even if you're not paying for the service. If you do pay, it costs $1 a week and unlocks more skips. You only get six options to skip a song by default, which is fairly competitive.

If nothing else, the app seems worth using just for the ad-free music. It doesn't hurt that Songza for Android behaves like a really solid DJ that will open your world to a slew of new artists and old classics you might have missed, too. We think it's one of the best streaming radio apps on the market.
