Review: FileThis Fetch is your digital secretary for paperless statements

FileThis Inc. aims to reduce clutter and makes going paperless much easier with their new iOS app FileThis Fetch.

FileThis is a service that collects online statements and makes them available to you in one place via cloud storage or locally on your computer. The FileThis Fetch app works well with many online financial institutions such as banks and moneylenders as well as merchants and service companies. Whether you want to stay on top of personal finance or manage small business expenses, FileThis Fetch might suit your needs.

After the installation, you will be required to create a FileThis account. The free service allows up to six free connections (statements) with a paid premium option of $5/month for 30 connections. To create a connection, just press the "+" icon and search for the company/bank/retailer that you would like to access. The app currently supports more than 300 institutions (with more on the way), from popular banks such as Bank of America and Chase to online merchants like Amazon, and even Utility companies like AT&T. Your account info. is needed plus a verification process must be passed (e-mail, phone number check) to start a connection. The final step is to create a destination to deposit all of your digital statements. You can choose from a variety of cloud services like DropBox, Google Drive, or Evernote. FileThis Fetch will then gather as many statements as it can find and converts it neatly into a PDF, accessible from your destination of choice. After this initial setup, FileThis Fetch becomes mostly hands-off and will automatically fetch your documents.

The app performed well during our test and only had a minor hiccup when it came to Amazon but that was quickly remedied by the development team. Syncing is almost instantaneous and FileThis Fetch was able to pull even the oldest statements we had available from Amazon. The interface is a little bland but mostly created to be functional; you won't see any distracting design elements here. We also hope that future updates will allow multiple destinations instead of just one. The core functionality of the mobile works well with its desktop counterpart. FileThis Fetch may be ideal for small business owners keeping track of expenses, or students managing loans, or just about anyone trying to stay on top of their finances.
