Review: Fancy Texts offers more control over fonts & text color, over messaging

Send multicolored, font-rich messages to your friends with this fun iOS app.

Fancy Texts is for anyone who thinks the built-in text and font capabilities of iOS are too bland. By delivering multiple fonts, font colors, styles, and other options for your text, you can customize your private messages and texts in dozens of ways that you couldn't otherwise on an iPhone. The result is not perfect, especially with an interface that lacks direction and a copy/paste function with some delay issues; but for the most part it works as intended.

The first step in using Fancy Texts is to write your text, and then choose the font, font color, font size, and background for that text. This is all relatively easy to do, but with a poorly-designed interface, some buttons are hard to tap and others are too close to other options, resulting in some hunt and peck mechanics. You have full access to the Apple font library here, though; and when done, you can copy any of the text you created into a message. Keep in mind, however, that the copied messages are images -- not text -- so it can impact bandwidth and messaging limits.

While Fancy Texts has its issues, it is a generally well-made app that adds a nice layer of functionality to the messaging capabilities of your iOS device. The resulting images are fun, fresh, and a nice change of pace from the standard, dull text that you see in most messages.
